Baroness Natalie Bennett hosted an Expert Consultation at the UK House of Lords to explore what policy measures are needed to resolve pharmaceutical pollution in the environment.
Sharon Pfleger (NHS Highland, OHBP co-founder) attended the consultation in London to discuss potential solutions to this issue. This included promoting the new UKRI project to develop an eco-directed formulary framework. OHBP associate partners from Glasgow Caledonian University, and collaborators from the University of Exeter were also in attendance.
Other experts included representatives from the UK Health Security Agency, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD), British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC), Chester NHS Trust, and Safe Medicines for Animal Regulatory Training.
Baroness Bennet is working to drive policy development on AMR and pharmaceutical pollution with Julze Alejandre (Hydro Nation PhD, Glasgow Caledonian University). Julze secured a senior internship at the House of Lords in 2022, supported by the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
