Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a pressing global health challenge that demands a collaborative and cross-disciplinary response. A forthcoming online mini-symposium, jointly hosted by the TARGetAMR and Fungal ONE Health UKRI Networks, will explore how genomics and transdisciplinary research are advancing efforts to combat AMR in both human and animal health.

TARGetAMR is a UKRI-funded national research network committed to harnessing genomics to improve the detection, monitoring, and understanding of antimicrobial resistance. Based at the University of Birmingham and working in collaboration with institutions such as the Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, and Strathclyde, the network fosters cross-sector partnerships to develop effective AMR mitigation strategies. Through interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange, TARGetAMR is driving innovation in AMR surveillance and policy development.
The event will cover a range of critical topics related to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). One presentation will explore the emergence of fungal pathogens and the growing threat of antifungal resistance, while another will focus on fungal population genomics and how AMR evolves over time. There will also be a discussion on plant pathogen resistance and sustainable disease control, addressing the challenges agriculture faces from resistant pathogens.
