OHBP presented at Swedish National Drugs and Therapeutics Committee Event in Stockholm

OHBP members Sharon Pfleger and Lydia Niemi presented the One Health Breakthrough Partnership and UKRI MRC funded eco-directed prescribing project at the National Drugs and Therapeutics Committee (DTC) event in Stockholm. The event included discussions with DTC representatives from Region Stockholm, Region Gavleborg, and Region Västernorrland to learn how environmental aspects are being considered in prescribing guidance across Sweden. Although the OHBP are familiar with the Stockholm Wise List and Janusinfo.se database, other regions have developed novel approaches to address sustainable healthcare, pharmaceuticals in the environment, and rational use of drugs.

The visit also included meetings with Uppsala University partners and Michael Bertram from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) to learn about behavioural ecotoxicology and research quantifying wildlife responses to chemical pollution. Prompting rich and valuable discussions on “big picture” thinking around pharmaceuticals in the environment, drug utilisation, ecology, and where the OHBP and partners go next!
