Scottish Water & NHS Scotland co-branded Nature Calls campaign includes medicine disposal

Scottish Water is working with NHS Scotland to share the Nature Calls customer awareness campaign. The Nature Calls campaign raises awareness of the impact of inappropriately flushing items such as wipes and sanitary products down the toilet. It aims to reduce the 36,000 sewer blockages which Scottish Water clears annually, reduce the number of NHS sewer blockages and help to reduce the avoidable costs associated with this. The NHS use 9% of the wet wipes in the UK.

We have co-branded 2 posters to be used across NHS Scotland and will be providing free Nature Calls stickers for toilet cisterns. These share the message of “bin the wipes” and “only flush the 3Ps, pee, poo & toilet paper”. The Nature Calls Checklist poster also asks customers to “return unused medicines to the pharmacy for safe disposal” which will help to reduce pharmaceutical pollution and antimicrobial resistance.
