Healthcare Without Harm (HCWH) Europe will host a virtual workshop on sustainable pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chain transparency on Sept 18th, 10:30 to 13:00 CEST. The workshop will explore the environmental and social impacts of pharmaceuticals, discuss strategies to enhance sustainability in pharmaceutical supply chains and identify opportunities for collaboration and action among stakeholders.

The global pharmaceutical supply chain is essential for ensuring access to life-saving medications. However, current practices present significant sustainability challenges. Growing evidence shows that pharmaceutical pollution contaminates ecosystems, threatens biodiversity, and harms human health worldwide. The need for change is urgent and clear.
The speakers include representatives from HCWH’s Safer Pharma group, the European pharmaceutical industry, and environmental and healthcare sustainability experts. Kelly Thornber (Co-Director, Pharma Pollution Hub) is one of the speakers. The Pharma Pollution Hub is an independent, non-for-profit thinktank based out of the University of Exeter. OHBP steering group members are engaged with the group to support efforts towards reducing the environmental impact of medicines used in UK healthcare.
